Moonee Valley Racing Club (MVRC), home of the prestigious Tatts Cox Plate, not only hosts champion winners such as last year’s winning horse ‘So You Think’, but is in fact a winner itself! Did you know the club won the Overall Award for Excellence in the national 2010 savewater! awards®?
MVRC has developed a comprehensive water saving program that goes well beyond the normal expectations of a horse racing club and at a time that water use exemptions were available. The club identified a suite of technologies from track surface grass to waterless toilet systems that together delivered a staggering 70% reduction in drinking water consumption or 60 million litres of water saved in just 12 months – that equates to 24 Olympic-sized swimming pools!
‘So You Think’ you’re up for the challenge? The national 2011 savewater! awards® call for entries have now opened, giving you the opportunity to showcase your water saving efforts. The savewater! awards® are now in their ninth year, and have emerged as Australia’s leading awards for water sustainability, recognising and rewarding excellence in water conservation and efficiency.
Awards will be presented in nine categories, three of which will be open internationally, including the Water Utilities category for the first time. The awards also feature a photo competition, which is designed to recognise creative talent by capturing water conservation imagery as the key focus, and is open to photographers of all ages.
